BUILDING STUDY FOR KRÜSS OFFICES AND LABORATORY - The compact, contemporary building features a rhythmic facade of vertical wooden slats that provide solar shading, warmth, and texture while framing expansive floor-to-ceiling glass. This transparency welcomes visitors at street level, where a bright, open reception flows seamlessly into a showcase showroom displaying KRÜSS's advanced tensiometers, contact angle systems, and other precision instruments.

Functional zoning supports the company's hybrid needs:

Ground floor: Welcoming reception and interactive showroom for clients and partners.
Second floor: Collaborative offices with abundant natural light.
Third floor: Specialized laboratory workstations for R&D, testing, and instrument development.

The design balances transparency and purpose—open and approachable at the base to foster engagement, while the upper levels remain focused and professional. Rendered in a serene watercolor style, the building stands as a distinctive, sustainable hub reflecting KRÜSS's commitment to advancing surface science.

The proposed KRÜSS building is conceived as a compact yet highly efficient architectural statement that reflects the company’s precision-driven identity. The massing is clean and contemporary, carefully proportioned to create a strong urban presence without overwhelming its surroundings. Vertical wooden fins wrap the façade in a rhythmic pattern, acting as passive solar shading devices that reduce heat gain while allowing controlled daylight penetration. This layered façade system enhances energy performance while giving the building a refined, tactile character that resonates with innovation and craftsmanship.

At street level, transparency becomes the primary architectural gesture. Expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing establishes a visual dialogue between the interior and the city, inviting curiosity and engagement. Visitors enter into a double-height reception space filled with natural light, where clean lines, neutral materials, and subtle branding elements create a welcoming yet professional atmosphere. The reception seamlessly transitions into an interactive showroom designed to demonstrate KRÜSS’s advanced surface science technologies through live displays, digital interfaces, and hands-on product experiences

Sustainability is integrated throughout the project, from passive shading strategies and high-performance glazing to energy-efficient mechanical systems and responsible material sourcing.

Rendered in a serene watercolor style, the architectural vision expresses lightness, clarity, and scientific precision. The building stands not only as a workplace but as a physical embodiment of KRÜSS’s mission to advance surface science—transparent in its communication, precise in its function, and innovative in its presence.

The third floor houses specialized laboratory facilities designed for research, testing, calibration, and instrument development. Despite its technical nature, the laboratory level maintains visual continuity with the overall architectural concept through controlled daylight access and cohesive material selection.

The second floor is dedicated to collaborative office environments that support flexible and hybrid work models. Open-plan workstations are complemented by enclosed meeting rooms, focus pods, and informal breakout lounges. Large windows framed by the wooden slats provide filtered daylight, reducing glare while maintaining visual comfort. Natural materials, acoustic treatments, and biophilic elements such as indoor greenery contribute to a healthy and productive workplace atmosphere that encourages teamwork and innovation.

The interior spaces are designed to encourage movement, interaction, and visual connectivity between departments, strengthening collaboration across research, development, and administration teams.
